Following a global search that nominated more than 75 emerging menswear designers from 60 countries across the world, Cottweiler was chosen as the winner of the 2016/17 International Woolmark Prize, and the innovative capsule collection that won the London-based label this prestigious prize is being launched into the world’s leading boutiques this month.
The limited-edition collection, designed by Matthew Dainty and Ben Cottrell, brings the brand’s fetish-infused cult and tribe codes into the world of wool. The winning collection comprises sheer Merino wool base-layers, windproof mid-layers and quilted waterproof outerwear, with wool-blend fabrics and utilitarian detailing.
“There was a very loose reference to travel, so we wanted lightweight pieces that could take you through different climates, that could be packable and not too heavy,” said Cottrell. “We also created a fitted gilet, which comprises all of the offcuts of the collection as its filling, so no piece of fabric used in the making of the collection has gone to waste.”
The collection is available now exclusively in the UK from Harvey Nichols’ Knightsbridge store and will be available on harveynichols.com from the beginning of September.
